Rental Agreement Format in Telugu (Bilingual)

RA By Rent Agreement Generator Editorial· Updated 2026-10-06·8 min read

Key takeaways

A rental agreement format in Telugu works best as a paired document: the same commercial terms written once in English and once in Telugu script, so the landlord and the tenant can each check every line in the language they read most easily. Treat any Telugu wording on this page as a starting point for a Telugu reader to confirm, and ask the state authority about stamping and registration before anyone signs.

A Telugu rent agreement matters mainly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where one side of the deal may be far more comfortable reading Telugu than English. This page is built for that reader. It shows a layout, lists the only Telugu words we could check against a source, explains what a drafting pass looks like in practice, and points to the Telangana department site for official material. It does not quote duty figures, promise that any agreement will be accepted, or replace a Telugu-speaking reader.

Rental agreement format in Telugu: the layout to follow

Start with the order of the document rather than the language. A sample Telugu house rental agreement published on a public blog in 2020 runs in a sequence that most residential agreements follow: who the parties are, what property is being let, how long the tenancy lasts, what rent is due and when, what deposit is held, who pays utilities and maintenance, how either side ends the arrangement, and finally the signatures, two witnesses and a date.

That sequence gives you a dozen short blocks to draft. Each block should carry one idea. If a block carries two, split it, because it is much easier to compare two languages when the units are small. A reader can then put the English block and the Telugu block side by side and tick them off one at a time.

You can draft the English half with our free 11-month rent agreement format. The generator is a drafting aid for the core terms; it is not a Telugu translator, so plan to adapt the wording into Telugu afterwards. Our guide to the Word and PDF formats explains the English clauses in more detail if you want that background first.

Names deserve their own care. A name written in Telugu script and the same name written in English letters will not always match letter for letter, so decide the English spelling first, copy it from the identity document each person will actually use, and ask the Telugu reader to write the name so it sounds the same. Do this for the landlord, the tenant and each witness, and use the identical form every time it appears in either version.

The eight Telugu words we could check

We checked Telugu terms against one source, the 2020 sample above. We have no Telugu reader on this page, so the list is deliberately short. These are terms as commonly seen in a sample agreement, not an official glossary, and a Telugu speaker should review them before they go into a signed document.

EnglishTelugu as seen in the sampleWhere it belongs in the draft
Rentఅద్దెThe monthly amount clause and the payment-date clause
Landlordభవన యజమానిParty details at the top and in the signature block
Tenantఅద్దెదారుParty details at the top and in the signature block
Security depositసెక్యూరిటీ డిపాజిట్The deposit amount and refund clause
Witnessసాక్షిThe signature lines at the end
Agreementఒప్పందంThe title and any reference to the whole document
NoticeనోటీసుThe termination and notice-period clause
MonthనెలThe term clause, where the tenancy length is counted in months

We have no checked Telugu phrase for "rental agreement" as a whole, so do not invent a title in Telugu; leave the title in English until a Telugu reader supplies one they trust. Everything not in the table, including the title, the property description, utilities, any lock-in period and renewal, should stay in plain English in your bilingual draft until a Telugu reader supplies wording you trust. Inventing legal vocabulary is the quickest way to create a clause that means something different from its English twin.

Clauses that need English labels for now

The next table covers the clauses where we have no checked Telugu term. For each one it sets out what the clause has to settle, so the Telugu reader you ask has a clear question to answer instead of a vague request to translate the whole document.

ClauseWhat it has to settleQuestion for your Telugu reader
Property descriptionDoor number, floor, locality and what is included in the lettingIs the address written the way the property papers write it?
Utilities and maintenanceWho pays electricity, water and building charges, and who handles repairsDoes the Telugu sentence say who pays, not just that bills exist?
Lock-in periodWhether any period exists in which neither side may leave, or a statement that there is noneDoes the Telugu text state the same length as the English?
Renewal and escalationHow the agreement is renewed and whether the rent risesIs the increase a figure or a formula in both versions?

A drafting route that keeps the two versions honest

First pass: lock the numbers in English

Write the commercial terms down before anyone opens a Telugu keyboard. The landlord and tenant agree the rent, the deposit, the length of the tenancy, the notice period and the date it starts. Put each amount in figures and in words. When both are written, read one against the other. An extra zero is easy to miss in figures, and a spelling slip can change a number written in words, so the double entry catches what a single entry would let through.

Second pass: prepare the Telugu text from the finished English

Give the finished English text to a person who reads and writes Telugu, ideally someone neither party depends on for the deal itself. Ask them to keep the clause order identical and to use Telugu script throughout, rather than dropping transliterated English words into the middle of a sentence, which makes the two versions harder to line up. Ask them to leave the English wording in place for any term they are not sure of, and to say so, rather than guess.

Third pass: read the two versions together

Sit down with both versions, both parties and the Telugu reader, and compare block by block. The goal is not elegance. It is to find any place where a name, date, amount or period differs. Write down who prepared the Telugu text and keep the English file it was prepared from. If the two ever disagree later, that record tells everyone what each side was shown.

Say which version prevails

Add one short clause stating which language controls if the two texts differ. Without it, a disagreement about a single word can turn into a disagreement about which document counts. Keep both versions signed, and keep names, dates and amounts identical in each.

Checking Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with the authorities

Stamp duty, registration and how a regional-language agreement is treated are decisions for the state, so this page gives no figures and makes no claim about validity. What it can do is point you to the right place to ask. For Telangana, the official site of the Registration and Stamps Department, Telangana is registration.telangana.gov.in. The table records what the site showed on 6 October 2026.

Toll-free enquiries1800 599 4788Use it to ask what your tenancy needs and whether a bilingual text is acceptable

Check the site directly for the current forms and details, because departments update them. If your property is in Hyderabad or elsewhere in Telangana, begin there. If it is in Andhra Pradesh, this page does not name a portal or quote a rule; ask the Andhra Pradesh stamps and registration department or a local Sub-Registrar. If the property sits in one state and one of you lives in the other, confirm the position for the state where the property is, and write down who you spoke to and on what date.

Whether a Telugu or bilingual agreement is accepted for stamping or registration is a question for the registering authority, not for a template site. Some websites make confident statements either way. This page makes none. This is general information, not legal advice; if the rent, deposit or tenancy term is large, or the property is under a loan or a dispute, ask a local lawyer to read the final text.

It also helps to decide early who keeps what. Each party should hold a signed copy of both language versions, not only the one they read, plus a copy of the identity details quoted in the agreement and the receipt for any deposit. Scan everything on the day of signing, so that a single lost paper does not leave one side unable to show what was agreed.

Where bilingual drafts go wrong

Consider a simple case, invented here for illustration. The English text says the rent is fifteen thousand rupees a month, and the Telugu text, typed from a rough note, shows a different amount in figures. Nobody notices at signing because each party read only their own language. Months later each side is sure of a different number. Reading the two versions together and checking the words against the figures is what prevents this, and it takes far less time than untangling it afterwards.

The same pattern shows up in smaller ways. A date appears in one version and not the other. A notice period is written as one month in English and left vague in Telugu. A witness line is blank in one copy. The sample we studied ends with signature lines for two witnesses, and leaving those lines empty invites doubt about who was present. Date every signature and initial every page of both versions.

The last mistake is false confidence. A document in two languages can look more official than one in a single language, but the length of the paper says nothing about whether anyone checked it. Use the checked words, flag the rest, and have a Telugu reader sign off on the final text.

Before you finish, draft the core terms with the free 11-month rent agreement format, then adapt the clauses using the two clause tables above. For another language handled with a different layout, see our rental agreement format in Tamil.

Frequently asked questions

Is a rental agreement in Telugu valid?

This page cannot promise that. Whether a Telugu or bilingual agreement is accepted for stamping or registration is a question for the Registration and Stamps Department, Telangana, or the local Sub-Registrar. Ask them before you sign, and have a Telugu speaker review the text.

Which language should the stamped copy be in?

Ask the registering authority. No template site can answer this for you. A bilingual document with a clause stating which version prevails is one drafting approach, but confirm with the office that will stamp or register it.

Do I need witnesses?

A sample Telugu rental agreement ends with signatures from both parties and two witnesses. Put each witness's name, address and signature on the document and date every signature.

Where do I check Telangana or Andhra Pradesh rules?

For Telangana, the Registration and Stamps Department site at registration.telangana.gov.in lists lease deed templates, pre-registration slot booking and a toll-free number, 1800 599 4788. For Andhra Pradesh, check with the Andhra Pradesh registration department or a local Sub-Registrar.

Can I use one format for Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh?

The clause structure can be the same, but stamp, registration and language questions are state-specific. Draft the common terms once, then confirm the local steps separately for each state before signing.
